My new car!

A nice shot of the car I got, replacing the sweet ol’ Nissan

Good news, folks! I got my digital camera back today! So I've been "clicking" away photos and I'm ready to type up another 'journalistic perspective'. Well this week is midterm week for the summer quarter at SCAD (one guy, by the way, after keeping track of this, just realized I am in Georgia! Should I have made it a little more obvious? *wink*

Anyway…fortunately for me, being a painting major, I don't have to cram for last-minute studying and reviewing notes … instead I'll be doing a couple in-class painting which doesn't require losing sleep over. (Are you enjoying this, Sarahlena?) I've also been doing a lot of paintings since the start of the quarter. Like I mentioned, the classes are six hours long so I do a lot of work.

My studio cluttered with paintings

Here’s an updated shot of my studio – more pictures, more stuff!

Another shot of my studio

Another shot, another point of view, of my studio

In my intermediate painting, my professor has let me have the opportunity to work in my studio, as he's encouraged others to work outside the classroom (as long as they're still IN the building). Now I'm much more comfortable with working there. Another woman who has her own studio as well is selling a lot of her studio stuff (a rug, bookshelves, art supplies, etc…) and I'm really hoping I can get some of her stuff to make my studio more comfortable. Also there's the birthday gift my dad's sending me. *smile*

I've done two really nice paintings (in my opinion) so far - the first one's where we had to find "litter" or junk around the painting building and paint it (as a still life painting. I found a leaf and a broken piece of blue glass (really pretty) and painted it "drip" style (don't know if you can tell by the picture). And all of us hated our paintings…so the professor asked us to add SOMETHING to make it more interesting… so I added the hand with the paintbrush. Just about everybody in class LOVED it (of course - kidding!).

A painting of a "hand painting a picture"

The first painting I did for intermediate painting class … note the drip technique I did on the leaf. I know it doesn’t look like it, but the blue "thing" in the middle is actually a piece of broken blue glass.

A painting of sealife

The really large "kitsch" painting…Dad, this is your Christmas present…now if only I can figure out how to put a four feet by four feet painting on the plane!!!

I just completed a huge four feet by four feet painting, another still life - of "kitsch" stuff ("kitsch" - according to www.dictionary.com - stands for "art or artwork characterized by sentimental, often pretentious bad taste" - or as Sarahlena put it bluntly - "white trash!" So I headed on over to White Trash Galore - Wal Mart! Bought a bunch of souvenir stuff. As a result, I really LIKE my painting (believe it or not) … it's due tomorrow (Wednesday) and I'm hoping everybody likes it.

As for advanced painting, it's actually Advanced LIFE painting … so we continue working with models - clothed and nude. I hate to admit this but we do get better-looking models here than at CSUN (I still have nightmares about some of the models we had to draw!!!) but I sometimes get backaches after standing for so long and holding my palette in a fixed position. After all, my professor's constantly telling us, "Don't get too comfortable!!" Hmph.

Lifelike painting of a horse

A painting that’s put up in Alexander Hall (the painting building) that’s among my favorites – if you like it, it’s yours for $2000 – done by Paige Patty…called "A Child’s Point of View"

My new drawer chest

My new dresser drawer – no, I haven’t had a chance to put paint finish on it, Dad! But looks great, doesn’t it?

This Friday, we're supposed to go on a field trip to Atlanta. This was supposed to happen LAST week but due to conflicting events, it's been postponed to THIS week…I really don't know what I'll do for the 4 hour drive there (no I'm not driving, we're all riding in a SCAD van). Specifically, we're going to be visiting the High Museum of Art there…where there's a bunch of galleries and all. I'm really looking forward to it.

Some of our "apartment visitors" have been remarking how BARE Bethany's and my apartment is…so I said, "That does it! We're going to Lowe's!" (A hardware store in Savannah) and we bought a really nice bookshelf for the living room and a dresser drawer for my bedroom - yes we put it together OURSELVES - we didn't have to pay anyone to do it, either! As s result, the apartment looks nicer and less bare.

Shot of my bookshelf

The new bookshelf – Bethany and I emptied our closets and put all our books there … now our closets (especially MINE) are a little more empty!

Poolside shot

The pool here at the apartments – very resort-esque, huh? The water’s GREAT!!!

I've been spending a lot of time by the pool lately - especially with an entire day reading the 4th Harry Potter book by the poolside (EXCELLENT book, I must add. If you don't read Harry Potter, you're definitely missing out, young or old!!!) and getting a nice tan (Mom, before you say anything, I WEAR sunscreen! SPF 15!!!!). Hey Stacy, hey Mom - look at the picture - this is why I want YOU to come to Savannah!!! :) I'll even include it on my birthday wish list! Anyway - take care and have a good week! And, hey, Jeremy and Whitney - heartfelt congratulations on your engagement!!!!
