Week 10: Onward to Whitemarsh Island

Overlooking the parking lot

The view of the apartments -- right out of one side of our building...you can see one of the ponds over yonder.

Well – there’s a time when you just gotta move on – so I did.  My apartment (see week 2) lease ended June 1st and the rent would have gone up if we decided to sign for another year.  Amy decided she had enough of Savannah but Bethany asked me if I was interested in finding another place with her.  Thinking of all the little problems with the apartment (cockroaches, squeaky floors, faulty air conditioning, the neighborhood), it didn’t take me long to say YES.

I suggested someplace in downtown Savannah (near or around the historic district) so I took pictures of available apartments.  Bethany suggested the south side – kind of far if I was to take my bike to class.  So with our little apartment guide, we looked all over.

Another view from my apartment

A great view of the marshes - a view seen on the other side of my building.

The living room

Our living room - I know it's bare and sparse but we just moved in :)

One thing about Bethany and I – we have “expensive” taste – we were interested in finding the very best (but within our budget, of course) … our verdict?  A stunning 1-2 year old apartment complex on Whitemarsh Island – near Wilmington Island.  It’s just a bridge away from the Savannah city limits.  So we signed the lease, as so did our parents as co-signers (thanks, Mom and Dad!).  We were set to move in a couple weeks later.

When the big day arrived, we were fortunate enough to get help from Bethany’s dad and her boyfriend, as well as a U-haul.  We had started early that morning and were pretty much all moved in by 5 p.m.  The day was hot so it slowed us down a tad bit.

The kitchen!

The kitchen - all white and modernized -- just the way I like it!

Our lovely dining room

The dining room - nice, huh? Our aim: thinking like Martha Stewart (boy, don't we have a long way to go??)

The place so far is great – it has a swimming pool (looks a lot like a hotel resort!), gym, free video rentals, security gates, fishing ponds (even tho’ I don’t eat fish or seafood), and an incredible boardwalk.  The apartment manager, upon learning that I was a painting major, immediately told me I should paint the views of the marshes there sometimes.  The boardwalk IS beautiful.  At night, it lights up so it’s romantic, too.  I could ramble on and on about how terrific the place is… but you’ll have to come visit me and see the place for yourself.
